Awards celebrate success of Hackney’s teaching community
On 1 March 2010, Hackney’s teaching and learning community celebrated the achievements of the people responsible for making its schools among the most improved in the country at The Learning Trust Educators’ Awards.
Teachers, support staff, governors, headteachers, business partners and childcare workers were recognised at the biennial event, held at the Tower Hotel, St Katherine’s Dock.
The event was hosted by BBC London News presenter Brenda Emmanus, with schools minister Iain Wright and former chair of The Learning Trust Sir Mike Tomlinson among those invited to hand out the awards.
In total, 20 awards were presented, each one highlighting Hackney’s improvement in all areas of education over recent years. The evening culminated with Mr Wright, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for 14-19 Reform and Apprenticeships, presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Beryl Grosvenor, Deputy Head of Stormont House School.
Alan Wood, Chief Executive, The Learning Trust, said:
“The Learning Trust Educators’ Awards go beyond recognising the extraordinary work done by individuals and teams in Hackney. They also represent our aspiration to create the opportunities for thousands of children, families and young people to change their lives for the better.”
