The Learning Trust is the UK’s first private not-for-profit company to run a borough’s education services.
We are responsible for Hackney’s schools, day nurseries, the play service and the adult education service. With over 900 staff, The Learning Trust is committed to improving standards for more than 26,000 children in 75 schools across Hackney.
We do all this…
• recruit teachers
• maintain schools
• operate school transport
• manage the administration of education in Hackney including finances
• coordinate early years and play
• provide IT including a Wide Area Network for schools
• promote lifelong learning and adult education
• provide for children’s special educational needs
and so much more…
Providing great quality education services takes great leadership.
Meet four key members of our board and hear what Success in the Making means for them…
Alan Wood, Director of Children’s Services
“For me, Success in the Making is about finding the right ingredients to enable every young person, whatever their background or environment, the best possible chance to achieve their potential. That’s what motivates me and I know a lot of our teachers feel the same.”
Steve Belk, Acting Chief Executive
“I really couldn’t think of a more exciting and more rewarding place to teach than here in Hackney. Our schools have improved beyond belief over the last decade and there’s lots of reasons to suggest we’ve got even more success to look forward to.”
Mark Smith, Director, Finance and Resources
“In Hackney, we’re right to celebrate the fantastic work done by our brilliant frontline teaching staff day in, day out. But Success in the Making is also about the skill and dedication of our support staff, whether in Human Resources, IT, Marketing or Finance, who ensure that we’re providing the best possible service at the best possible value for money.”
Richard Hardie, Chair of The Learning Trust
“The improvement in Hackney’s education since 2002 has been exceptional. GCSE results have soared, schools are increasingly judged to be good or outstanding and support from the whole community continues to go from strength to strength.
At the centre of all this success is the hard work, commitment and dedication of a huge number of individuals and teams.”
Here are five reasons to support learning in Hackney…
• Our GSCE results are now above the National Average and 80 per cent of our primary schools were rated “good” or “outstanding” by Ofsted in 2009
• Our post-16 education is ranked in the top third nationally
• Our students are rewarded and recognised every year at our unique Trailblazers event and our teachers and support staff are recognized every year at our unique Educators Awards event
• Our adult learning team have helped reskill over 27,000 people since 2004
• Our staff don’t want to work anywhere else (well 97 per cent of them anyway…)
Here’s what some of our current staff said when we asked them what it was like to work for The Learning Trust…
